Newmarket, ON based Alcos Machinery Inc. is a world-class designer and manufacturer of coil processing machinery. A machine that had been supplied to one of their customers, North American Pipe and Steel Ltd., required a custom retrofit solution. The equipment is used in the unwinding of galvanized steel coils of various gauges. The steel is then cut into specific length and the machine required a mechanism to handle this process. Trans-Quip Inc. supplied four 5 ton Joyce Screw Jacks (model AWJ65-36-INV-T1SP) to raise and lower the machine “header”. As a result, one machine can now handle and cut any thickness of steel coil, which then becomes part of their inventory. As added protection, the Joyce screw jacks have an anti-backlash feature which prevents any backdrive under the load. |
